Suncor was founded in 1967 with it pioneer development of Canada’s Athabasca oil sands, which allowed Suncor to be competitive in the global market place. SU has a number of growth projects that they are currently working on. This includes upgrades of oil sands near Fort McMurray, Alberta,  Canada and building growth in Libya and Syria. In addition, Suncor is also working towards investments in clean and renewable energy sources. These projects are made up of 4 wind farms with the capacity of 147 megawatts of energy, which offsets about 284,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
